Then why tools such as sniffer classified into spyware? There is a reason behind it. As we all know that the sniffer tools can have two sides of the side of good or useful for administrators. Sniffer can be used by administrators to do a 'tracing' or analysis of packets on their network. Network Load utility to know the bandwidth capacity is also using sniffer technology. Tool IDS - Intrusion Detection System based network is also using sniffer technology to detect intrusion in a network.
But on the other side was a sniffer can be used for purposes that are not good example for sniffing user-id and password used on a network. Therefore, when an existing authentication system does not use encryption for passwords and user-id or a form of 'plain-text', the sniffer can easily see the user-id and password.
In addition there are categories of spyware which people are happy to install it is P2P - Point to Point software such example is Kazaa - P2P file sharing is very popular. Within this there are a lot Kazaa adware - software ads - because that's where they make a profit. This category is included in the 'user awareness installation' means that users who do or trigger the installation itself is not via an embedded installation for example when doing downloads or access to the Internet.
